What to Wear to a Bali Beach Club
The safest choice is polished resort casual: swimwear underneath, a proper cover-up, comfortable sandals and something dry and slightly smarter for sunset or dinner.
You do not need to dress like you are attending a fashion event. You do need to think beyond the pool. Bali beach clubs often combine swimming, restaurants, bars, DJs and sunset drinks in the same venue, so the best outfit needs to work across all of them.
For women, that might mean a swimsuit with an oversized shirt, sarong, lightweight dress or matching set. For men, swim shorts with a T-shirt, linen shirt or relaxed resort shirt works well. Add sandals or thongs that are clean and comfortable enough to wear around the venue.

The easiest Bali beach club outfit
| When | What to wear |
|---|---|
| Arriving during the day | Swimwear + shirt, sarong, shorts, dress or cover-up + sandals |
| By the pool | Swimwear with an easy layer nearby |
| Lunch | Dry cover-up, shirt, shorts, skirt or loose dress |
| Sunset drinks | Fresh shirt, simple dress, matching set or lightweight trousers |
| Staying for dinner | One step smarter than poolwear, but still lightweight and relaxed — see our Bali dinner guide |
The general rule is simple: wear something that can go over your swimwear without making you feel overdressed in the heat.
Do Bali beach clubs have dress codes?
Some do, and the details are not identical from one venue to another.
FINNS Beach Club says smart casual outfits are appreciated and publishes specific clothing restrictions for parts of the venue. Its current terms also note that wet swimwear is not permitted in some restaurant areas.
Potato Head Beach Club takes a much more relaxed approach and currently states that it has no dress code. Atlas Beach Club currently says smart casual outfits are appreciated too.
That is why broad claims such as “Bali beach clubs require smart casual” are not very useful. Check the venue you are actually visiting.
What women can wear to a Bali beach club
The easiest approach is to choose swimwear first, then build one lightweight outfit around it.
- one-piece swimsuit with an oversized linen or cotton shirt
- bikini with a sarong and loose button-up shirt
- swimsuit with lightweight shorts and a resort shirt
- bikini with an easy midi dress or beach dress
- swimwear with a matching shirt-and-shorts set
You do not need heels, structured tailoring or elaborate jewellery. The venue may look glamorous online, but you are still dealing with humidity, pools, sand, wet floors and hours of sitting outdoors. A good Bali beach club outfit should still look good after you have actually used the beach club.

What men can wear to a Bali beach club
Men can keep it straightforward.
- swim shorts + clean T-shirt + sandals
- swim shorts + linen shirt worn open over a T-shirt
- tailored swim shorts + relaxed resort shirt
- lightweight shorts + short-sleeved collared shirt if you are not swimming
If you are staying into the evening, taking a dry T-shirt or shirt is worth the small amount of bag space. At some venues, especially where restaurants or VIP areas are involved, the standard becomes slightly more polished than basic poolwear.
Dress codes at three popular venues
FINNS Beach Club
FINNS is one venue where it is worth checking the current rules before you go. The club currently says smart casual outfits are appreciated. Its published terms also contain restrictions on some group costumes and certain sports or branded clothing, and some dining areas require guests to move beyond wet swimwear.
A safe FINNS outfit is swimwear, a proper shirt or cover-up, shorts or a sarong, sandals, and a dry top for later in the day. See the current FINNS Beach Club information before visiting, particularly if you have booked a restaurant, VIP area or special event.
Potato Head
Potato Head in Seminyak is more relaxed about clothing and currently states there is no dress code. That does not mean arriving in the least amount of clothing possible — a loose shirt over swimwear, a resort dress, or shorts and a T-shirt all work naturally there. The advantage is you can dress for comfort rather than worrying about a formal standard. Check Potato Head Beach Club directly for current venue information.
Atlas Beach Club
Atlas currently describes smart casual outfits as appreciated, so arrive one notch above bare-minimum poolwear — clean shorts, a shirt or good T-shirt, swimwear with a proper cover-up, and sandals rather than an elaborate night-out outfit. If you are going for a particular event, check the current Atlas Beach Club information, as event conditions can differ from an ordinary beach club day.
What shoes should you wear?
Flat shoes win: comfortable sandals, clean thongs, flat slides, or lightweight sneakers if they suit the outfit and you are not planning to swim.
High heels are generally more trouble than they are worth. Beach clubs combine steps, decking, pool edges, wet floors and sometimes sand. If you want a more polished look for sunset, choose a smarter flat sandal rather than trying to force a city-nightclub shoe into a tropical beach setting.
What to wear from afternoon into sunset
This is where packing one dry layer pays off. You might arrive at 2pm, swim, have a late lunch, stay for sunset and then decide to eat dinner without returning to the hotel. Bring something you can change into without carrying half your wardrobe.
For women, a lightweight dress or matching set works well. For men, a clean shirt or fresh T-shirt with dry shorts is usually enough. The aim is not to transform your outfit — it is simply to stop looking and feeling like you have just climbed out of the pool.
Should you wear swimwear as your whole outfit?
Not usually. Swimwear is completely normal around pools and loungers, but a proper cover-up makes moving through restaurants, entrances and other shared spaces much easier. It also means you are prepared if your plans change — an oversized shirt, sarong, dress or lightweight shorts takes almost no effort and solves most of the problem.
What not to wear
- Anything too precious — if you will panic when it gets splashed with pool water, it probably does not belong at a beach club.
- Heavy fabrics — thick denim and structured layers become uncomfortable quickly in Bali humidity.
- Very complicated outfits — you want to swim, sit, eat and move around without constantly adjusting your clothes.
- Wet swimwear in restaurant areas — even where swimwear is permitted around the venue, some dining areas have different standards. A dry shirt or cover-up solves this easily.
Three Bali beach club outfits that work
- Relaxed daytime: swimsuit or swim shorts + oversized cotton shirt + sandals + sunglasses.
- Polished resort: swimwear + matching shirt-and-shorts set or lightweight dress + smarter flat sandals + small bag.
- Afternoon through dinner: swimwear underneath + lightweight cover-up for the day + dry shirt, dress or trousers for sunset and dinner.
The safest choice
If you are unsure what to wear to a Bali beach club, do not overthink it.
Wear good swimwear, bring a proper cover-up, choose comfortable flat shoes and carry one dry layer for later.
That combination works at most Bali beach clubs without looking overdressed, underdressed or like you packed solely for the photograph.
